Brownies or chocolate cake? While seeming simplistic in nature, this question gets to the heart of so much more than a brief indulgence and respite (despite how personally meaningful and emotionally needed that escape may be for you). A brownie - rather, a proper brownie - is dense in nature, grounded, with a certain gravitational pull that is felt by many a vagus nerve; a chocolate cake - rather, an authentically prepared chocolate cake - is light, squishy, moist, and seemingly in opposition to the gravitational pull of this earth. Therein lies one key differential between the two: their relation and impact to our perception and experience of gravity. This is - dare I say it? - no "light" matter; it relates to our connection to our experience and existence, the very space and form that coalesces into our concept of reality, per se. If you have a preference for chocolate cake, next time you take your first bite from fork or spoon (which in itself is another discussion for another day, that aspect that brownies are most certainly finger food whereas a slice of cake is to be dealt with via a delicate fork or spoon; those who eat cake with spork or hand are a special breed), please remember to ask yourself in a moment of self-reflection, "How do I feel about my role and experience on this very earth, and is this bite and yearning for chocolate cake an unspoken desire to take flight?". If on the other hoof, you happen to feel a certain pull for a proper brownie, next time you take your first bite, hand to mouth, please remember to contemplate the following prose, "Am I seeking a source of grounding and meaning in a seemingly chaotic and pointless world, absent any direction?".
